life and work

After graduating from the state high school in Graz and studying at the Altenburg engineering school in Weimar , Weber settled in Berlin. From there he was drafted as a soldier and there he initially returned after the end of the war. In Berlin he came into contact with the group of artists around Herwarth Walden , the influential editor of the magazine Der Sturm , in which the artists of the avant-garde were presented or published.

In the early 1920s he went to Munich to study painting and then to Graz, where he studied with Daniel Pauluzzi , Wilhelm Thöny and Alfred Wickenburg . Since 1926 he was a member of the Graz Secession . Between 1934 and 1936 he stayed in Paris to study, where he attended the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and met Robert Delaunay and Fernand Léger , among others , who had a major influence on his artistic work. In 1936 he went to Spain, but returned to Germany via Italy after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War . From 1941 to 1943 he enrolled in the subject of stage design at the Vienna Academy . From 1945 he was a lecturer for artistic design at the Graz University of Technology .

Weber's early work has been strongly influenced by Delaunay's theory of colors and shapes since his stay in Paris, while the works that were created after the war are more likely to be assigned to Informel .
