Kurt Wilhelm-Kästner

Kurt Wilhelm-Kästner (born May 7, 1893 in Cröbern ; † June 10, 1976 in Badenweiler ) was a German art historian and university professor .

Life

Kurt Wilhelm-Kästner took part in the First World War as a war volunteer from 1914 to 1918 , most recently as a lieutenant in the reserve. From 1919 he studied art history , history and archeology . In 1921 he received his doctorate in Marburg . From 1923 to 1933 Wilhelm-Kästner was curator at the Folkwang Museum in Essen. In 1924 he completed his habilitation at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , where he taught from 1931 to 1936 as a non-official adjunct professor of art history.

In 1937 Wilhelm-Kästner joined the NSDAP , became a lecturer association leader and a member of the NSKK . In 1937 he was appointed full professor at the University of Greifswald , where he taught until 1942. From 1938 to 1942 Wilhelm-Kästner was rector of the University of Greifswald, in 1941/1942 he served as the Gaudozentenbundführer of Pomerania . In 1942 he was appointed full professor for art history at the University of Hamburg . Here he was removed from office for political reasons in the summer of 1945, but rehabilitated in 1950 . He then held his ordinariate in Hamburg until 1966. In retirement, Wilhelm-Kästner lived in Müllheim (Baden) .
