Kurt von Reibnitz
Kurt Artur Gustav Hans Otto Freiherr von Reibnitz (born November 12, 1877 in Kiel , † June 26, 1937 in Königsberg ) was a German lawyer and politician ( SPD ).
He came from the old Silesian noble family von Reibnitz . His father was a Vice Admiral in the Imperial Navy . After graduation Reibnitz completed a university degree and was 1902 in Rostock Dr. jur. PhD. After years in banking, he received his doctorate in 1912. phil. and worked 1912–1913 as an attaché at the German embassy in Washington, DC . From 1913–1918, he was district administrator for the Falkenberg district . Under the impression of the November Revolution, Reibnitz joined the SPD in 1918 after a public settlement with the previously ruling powers. From 1920 to 1927 he was a member of the state parliament of the Free State of Mecklenburg-Strelitz . From October 13, 1919 to August 2, 1923, as well as from March 13, 1928 to April 12, 1929 and from April 16, 1929 to December 4, 1931, he was the first Minister of State of the Free State of Mecklenburg-Strelitz . In 1929 and 1933, Reibnitz published accounts of Berlin society, which are regarded as valuable socio-historical sources on the Weimar Republic . His political stance earned him the ostracism of his peers, his opponents called him " the red baron ".
