The Kurtlak ( Russian Куртла́к ) is a left tributary of the Tschir in the Russian oblasts of Volgograd and Rostov .

The Kurtlak rises on the Danube ridge in the Volgograd Oblast. It flows through a hilly steppe landscape in a predominantly southwestern direction into the Rostov Oblast. Eventually it meets the Tschir, a right tributary of the Don, which flows southeast .

The Kurtlak has a length of 150 km. Its catchment area covers 2760 km². The river is mainly fed by the snowmelt . The river is flooded between March and May . In the summer the river has low water for longer periods. Its water is diverted for irrigation .
