Cuddle education
Cuddle education is a catchphrase that is used in the social educational discourse in the German-speaking area to describe school education that is characterized by low performance orientation and excessive consideration for the supposed needs of the child. The expression is mainly used by politicians and journalists, but the President of the German Teachers' Association , Josef Kraus , also describes a school education that makes it all too easy for students to get good grades as "cozy education " . The areas of discussion in which the term appears particularly frequently include the dispute over student performance triggered by the PISA studies and the dispute about how to deal with behavioral students and young criminals.
The educational scientist Jürgen Oelkers , who teaches in Zurich, has sharply criticized the term . Oelkers reports that the battle notion is used primarily by those conservatives whose school criticism is based more on an affect against reform pedagogy - especially against the " anti-authoritarian movement " - than on knowledge of the current reality in schools; as a result, these critics tend to see the introduction of more discipline as the silver bullet for solving school problems.
The family therapist Wolfgang Bergmann criticizes the "feel-good and cuddle pedagogy" as a school tone that is characterized by excessive striving for harmony and that offers children neither space for physical experiences nor outlets for occasional inappropriate behavior. According to Bergmann, the needs of boys in particular are systematically misunderstood and ignored in such a learning environment.
