Wolfgang Bergmann (born October 21, 1944 in Lemgo ; † May 18, 2011 in Hanover ) was a German educator , family therapist, and former journalist and media manager .

Life

Bergmann had to leave high school a year before graduation, did an apprenticeship in publishing and then graduated from high school. He then studied educational science in Berlin. As a co-founder of a free day care center and father, he put what he had learned into practice. Professionally, he initially made a career in the media and publishing sector, was editor-in-chief of the Deutsche Lehrer Zeitung and co-editor of the book series “Tumult” as well as a manager in the Bertelsmann group and in the pedagogical specialist publisher Beltz & Gelberg .

Wolfgang Bergmann was a qualified pedagogue and head of a practice for child and youth therapy, the Institute for Child Psychology and Learning Therapy in Hanover , which he opened in 1995 after completing additional training in family therapy . In 2008, bankruptcy proceedings were opened against the assets of the Institute for Child Psychology and Learning Therapy .

He belonged to the group of child and family scientists and practitioners in Germany. Bergmann was a member of the international expert advisory board of the Vienna Science Center, an association that voluntarily disbanded in 2007 as part of the examination by the City of Vienna's Control Office for the Art & Sciences project . Life in a media-dominated world and the change in family structures as well as a reform pedagogical concept of discipline and authority were among his main themes. In the public debate he took a counter-position to Michael Winterhoff and Bernhard Bueb , who, according to his understanding, raise the demand for more discipline and obedience with their books . When dealing with the “new children”, the author relied on serenity, order and what he called “good authority”.

Bergmann had three children and lived separately from his wife. In 2010 he was diagnosed with incurable bone cancer. In September 2010, Wolfgang Bergmann founded the foundation initiative "For Children". His wish was that his work would be carried on and implemented after his death. Wolfgang Bergmann succumbed to cancer on the night of May 18-19, 2011.
