Kyla Ross Briana (* 24. October 1996 in Honolulu , Hawaii ) is a former American gymnast and Olympic champion . Her father is of African American and Japanese origin, her mother is of Filipino and Puerto Rican origin.

Career

Ross was Olympic champion with the US team in 2012. She also took part in the 2013 and 2014 world championships, where she won several medals. She did not take part in the World Championships in Glasgow 2015. On February 22, 2016, she announced her retirement from top-class sport. She has been studying at UCLA since autumn 2016 .

Sexual abuse on the US gymnastics team

In 2018, Ross and Madison Kocian announced that they, like more than 250 other young athletes, had been molested by the American gymnastics team's doctor, Larry Nassar .
