Madison Taylor Kocian (born June 15, 1997 in Dallas , Texas ) is a former American gymnast .

Sporting successes

On the uneven bars she won the gold medal at the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow (together with three other gymnasts) and the silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . As a member of the United States team, she won the gold medal in the women's all- round competition at the 2014 and 2015 World Gymnastics Championships and at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She has been studying at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) since 2016 and is part of their university NCAA teams. She has resigned from active professional sport.

Private life

Kocian was born in Dallas, Texas in 1997. At the age of five, she began to train with Valery Viktorovich Lyukin at the World Olympic Gymnastics Academy in Plano , Texas. She attended Spring Creek Academy, also in Plano, and graduated from high school in 2015. She then began studying at UCLA in the fall of 2016 and joined their women's gymnastics team.

She has a younger brother.

In 2018, Kocian and Kyla Ross announced that they, like more than 250 other young athletes , had been abused by the American gymnastics team's doctor, Larry Nassar .
