László Honti

László Honti (born August 27, 1943 in Lengyeltóti ) is a Hungarian Finnougrist and member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences .

Life

László Honti began his studies at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest in 1963 and spent the academic year 1966/1967 as a scholarship holder in Finland at the universities of Turku and Helsinki . In 1970 he was in Budapest with a thesis on the Mansische doctorate . From 1980 to 1988 he headed the Ural Languages ​​research group at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. In 1988 he was appointed full professor of Finnish-Ugrian studies at the University of Groningen , and in 1997 he moved to the University of Udine , where he remained active until 2008. He was then called to the private Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Budapest.

Honti is a member of numerous scientific organizations and has been President of the Societas Uralo-Altaica since 2012 .

research

Honti's research focus was initially on Obugrian languages , later he turned primarily to questions of general comparative Finno-Ugric studies. He has presented relevant work on the historical morphosyntax of the Finno-Ugric languages ​​as well as on lexicology, above all on Numeralia .
