Seat cream

Seat cream or seat ointment (also buttock cream or buttock ointment ) is a care product to be applied to cycling shorts or the buttocks to avoid skin irritation and sore spots on longer bike tours and bike races . When sitting on the bicycle saddle for long periods of time, skin irritation is usually caused by friction in the perineum region and the associated penetration of bacteria . This can cause painful pimples (colloquially known as "sit-down pimples") and abscesses to form. Seat creams and seat ointments, for example, are based on petroleum jelly and usually contain antibacterial agents to counteract this effect. They can also contain herbal extracts from marigolds and chamomile for the wound healing effect . They also reduce friction.

A buttock cream contains little or no water and is mainly used for dry skin, whereas a buttock cream contains water and is said to have a cooling effect.

application

The seat cream is usually used in combination with padded cycling shorts and applied directly to the inside of the seat cushion in an amount of around two hazelnut sizes. In particular, it is applied to the seams of the seat cushion, as this is where most of the friction occurs. The cream can also be applied directly to the skin, but if possible not directly in the genital area. Care should also be taken to ensure that the fingers with which the cushion has already been rubbed are not put into the cream jar again, in order not to bring any bacteria on the cushion into contact with the cream. Alternatively, seat cream is also available as a spray. Seat creams or seat ointments generally do not penetrate the skin and must be washed off.
