ICV is the call sign of a long-wave transmitter operated by NATO on the island of Tavolara in northeastern Sardinia . On the frequencies 20.27 kHz and 20.76 kHz, coded messages are sent to submerged submarines . The military base with its transmitter masts is operated by the Italian Navy .
Investments
The eastern half of the five-kilometer-long and up to 560-meter-high rock island has been a restricted military area since 1962 . In the northeast, at Punta Timone, there are two small bays. In the western bay there is a protected landing stage with the military base. From there roads lead to three transmission masts. To the north-east of the base there is a single, 133-meter-high mast on Punta Timone, two additional pairs of antennas are located on the ridges to the south-east and south-west of the base. They are guyed steel truss masts with a triangular cross-section.
Others
