Niscemi is a town in Caltanissetta consortium of municipalities outside the region Sicily in Italy with 26,274 inhabitants (December 31, 2019).
Location and dates
Niscemi is 88 kilometers southeast of Caltanissetta . The residents mainly work in agriculture and industry.
The neighboring municipalities are Caltagirone ( CT ), Gela and Mazzarino .
history
Niscemi was founded in 1626. The place was badly damaged in an earthquake in 1693. Then the city was rebuilt in the same place.
Military transmitter
In the vicinity of Niscemi there is a military transmitter , including for long waves . This station also has a 253 meter high transmission mast at 37 ° 7'32 "N and 14 ° 26'11" E. A highly controversial ground station of the Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) in Sicily was completed at Niscemi in 2014 .
