Serradifalco

Serradifalco is a town and municipality in the Free Community Consortium Caltanissetta in the region of Sicily in Italy with 5792 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Serradifalco is 21 kilometers west of Caltanissetta . The residents mainly work in agriculture.

The neighboring communities are Caltanissetta , Canicattì ( AG ), Montedoro , Mussomeli and San Cataldo .

history

The parish was founded in 1640 by Leonardo Lo Faso Pietrasanta . Before that there was a small hamlet .

The Lo Faso Pietrasanta remained lords of the city for the next two centuries as "Duchi di Serradifalco" (Dukes of Serradifalco). The best-known representative of this family is Domenico Lo Faso Pietrasanta , who was known under the pseudonym "Serradifalco" as one of the most important archaeologists in Sicily of his time.

In the town

The palace of the Dukes of Serradifalco is worth seeing. The parish church of San Leonardo was built in 1740. The church has twelve half-capitals in the facade. Inside there is a statue of Saint San Leonardo painted with gold and marble altars. The frescoes from the early 20th century depict scenes from the life of Jesus Christ. The church of San Francesco on the outskirts dates from the 18th century. It contains four paintings by Vito d'Anna .

Out of town

In the direction of San Cataldo there is Vassallaggi , a settlement from the Bronze Age. The settlement is already in the area of ​​San Cataldo.
