Hippolyte Léon Benett (* 1838 in Orange , Vaucluse , † 1917 in Toulon , Var ) was a French painter and illustrator .

As a government employee, Léon Benett traveled through Algeria , Indochina , Martinique and New Caledonia , making maps on his travels.

His impressions were also found in the drawings and illustrations of several books, including those of Jules Verne , Victor Hugo , Lev Nikolajewitsch Tolstoy , Thomas Mayne Reid , Paschal Grousset , Camille Flammarion and other writers.

From 1867 he was married to Marguerite Olivier and had four children with her.
