Léon Florent Marie Huybrechts (born December 11, 1876 in Antwerp , † February 9, 1956 ) was a Belgian regatta sailor .

biography

Together with his brother Louis Huybrechts and Henri Weewauters , he took part in the 1908 Summer Olympics in London . At the regatta in the 6-meter class in Ryde , the crew won the silver medal. During the First World War, Huybrechts lived in the Netherlands, where he played a key role in establishing the 12-foot dinghy . At the Olympic Games in 1920 he was able to defend his silver medal in the 6-meter class together with Charles Van Den Bussche and John Klotz . Four years later at the Paris Games , he competed in the 6-meter class and in the monotype in 1924 , where he became Olympic champion. When he last participated in the Olympics in Amsterdam in 1928 , he took part in the regatta with the 12-foot dinghy, but this time failed to win a medal. From 1922 to 1956 Huybrechts was President of the Royal Yacht Club de Belgique .
