Löw Schwab
Löw Schwab ( Hebrew יהודה ליב שוואב, Hungarian Schwab Oroszlán ; 1794 in Mährisch-Kromau - April 3, 1857 in Pest ) was an Austrian rabbi .
Life
He was the son of a peddler. From 1805 Löw Schwab was a Talmudic student with the Moravian regional rabbi in Nikolsburg and then he was trained as a rabbi in Pressburg . From 1831 he officiated as rabbi in Proßnitz , then from 1836 in Pest, where he was particularly committed to the emancipation of the Jews in Hungary . The construction of the Great Synagogue in Budapest was his initiative.
