L'amor coniugale is a “ Farsa sentimentale” in one act, written by the Bavarian composer Johann Simon Mayr . It was premiered on July 26, 1805 at the Teatro Nuovo in Padua . The libretto is by Gaetano Rossi . It is a " rescue opera " based on the textbook of the Opéra-comique Léonore, ou L'amour conjugal by Jean Nicolas Bouilly , set to music by Pierre Gaveaux and premiered in Paris in 1798.

action
The action takes place in a prison in Poland . The jailer Peters has a domestica called Malvino. This is in reality Zeliska, who wants to free her husband, who is wrongly locked in prison. Floreska, Peters daughter, fell in love with Malvino. Peters father would like to organize the wedding, but Malvino does not want to and would rather accompany Peters to prison.
