Leland Exton Modesitt, Jr. (* 1943 in Denver , Colorado ) is an American science fiction and fantasy writer. He is best known for his fantasy cycle Recluce, which now comprises 21 volumes .

Life

Modesitt studied at Williams College in Massachusetts and then moved to Washington, DC for 20 years , where he first devoted himself to political literature. During this time he worked as a Navy pilot , lifeguard, messenger boy, radio DJ, assistant to a congressman, advisor to the American Environmental Protection Agency and as a university lecturer. He moved to New Hampshire , where he met his current wife, Carol A., an opera singer, in 1989. The couple has lived in Cedar City , Utah, since 1993 . In total, LE Modesitt Jr. was married three times; he has six daughters and two sons.

His first short story was published in Analog Science Fiction and Fact in 1973, entitled The Great American Economy . Since then, over 70 science fiction and fantasy books have been published. He also published poems, short stories and scientific papers. Three of Modesitt's books were named best book of the year by the trendy newspaper Kirkus Reviews . That was Flash 2004, The Eternity Artifact 2005 and Scholar 2011.
