LB Færgerne

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

LB Færgerne was a ferry service between the Danish town of Helsingor and the Swedish city of Helsingborg ( Danish H-H Overfarten ) wrong.

history

The Swedish company Linjebuss (LB), a subsidiary of the shipping company Stockholms Red AB Svea founded in 1954, ushered in a new era in Öresund when it competed against Danske Statsbaner (DSB) with a ferry on the route between Helsingør and Helsingborg in 1955 , which ran up to at that time the only operator on the route Helsingør – Helsingborg was with railway ferries .

The Betula car ferry was first used on the route, followed by Primula , Carola , Betula II , Regula and Ursula . The Betula belonged to Svenske Sukkerfabriks AB and previously transported sugar beet between Mörbylånga on Öland and Bergkvara in Småland . Since the season there was very short, the ferry could be used all year round.

The ferries were very popular and the “at tura” concept was introduced. This was a round trip with food on the ship. For a long time, the LB ferries were considered comfortable and cozy with their salons with a good view of the sound. On the DSB ferries, the passengers sat under the car deck, so that they were given the names "kælderfærgerne" ( German  cellar ferry ) or "u-bådene" ( German  submarines ). It was not until 1967 that DSB built a ferry with a saloon above the car deck.

In 1969 the company changed its name to Scandinavian Ferry Lines (SFL). In 1999 Stena Line in Gothenburg bought the company that is now part of Scandlines .

business

The ferry terminal was on the north pier of the port in Helsingør near Kronborg Castle .

Pedestrians were taken by shuttle buses from the north pier to the city of Helsingør on Strandgade.

With the increasing share of SFL in ferry traffic after the takeover, another ferry terminal was built in the far north.
