The Regula is a ferry built in 1971 . It operated over the Øresund until the mid-1990s . Then she was deployed over the Moonsund .

history

The ship was built under hull number 563 at the Jos L. Meyer shipyard in Papenburg for the Swedish shipping company Stockholms Rederi AB Svea . It was the second in a series of three identical ships from the shipping company.

The keel was laid on November 4, 1970, the launch in February 1971. The ship was delivered on April 7, 1971. It sailed under the flag of Sweden with its home port Helsingborg between Helsingborg in Sweden and Helsingør in Denmark . It was operated by the Swedish shipping company Linjebuss International, a subsidiary of Stockholms Rederi AB Svea.

In 1980 the shipping company became part of the Scandinavian Ferry Line.

In 1985 the ferry on the Helsingør Skibsværft was rebuilt. The public areas were expanded and the vehicle capacity increased from 65 to 105 cars. Instead of 800 passengers, 900 passengers could now be carried.

In October 1991 the ship came to SweFerry, which continued to operate it between Helsingborg and Helsingør.

In May 1996 the ferry was decommissioned and laid up in Helsingborg. In January 1997 she was sold to the shipping company Saaremaa Laevakompanii in Estonia for less than two million euros and from June 1, 1997 it was used between Virtsu and Kuivastu or Rohuküla and Heltermaa under the flag of Estonia .

On October 1, 2016, the shipping company TS Laevad took over the operation of the ferry connections and had ordered several double-ended ferries for this purpose . However, these were not delivered until the end of 2016, so the shipping company bought the Regula for four million euros in order to initially be able to continue using it on the route and also to have a replacement ship in the event of other ferries failing. The Regula has been a reserve ship since summer 2017 . It is used in the event of a breakdown or to support the double-ended ferries that regularly operate on the route.

Technical data and equipment

The ship is powered by four KHD - diesel engines of type SBA 8M 528A, each with 809  kW power driven. The motors act on two controllable pitch propellers . The ship is equipped with a bow thruster .

Two shaft generators with 500 kW output each and five diesel generators are available for power generation. The generators are driven by four Volvo Penta diesel engines with an output of 140 kW each and one Volvo Penta diesel engine with an output of 184 kW.

Two rolling tanks are available as stabilizers . The hull of the ship is reinforced with ice ( ice class 1A).

The ship has a continuous vehicle deck that is accessible via a bow and a stern ramp . The bow ramp is located behind a bow visor that can be opened upwards . The bow ramp is 5.20 meters long and 3.70 meters wide. The stern ramp is 6.54 meters long and 6.12 meters wide. The bow and stern ramps can each be loaded with 38 t. The maximum axle load is 14 t each.

In addition to the continuous vehicle deck with 350 lane meters, the ship is  equipped with a height-adjustable deck with 150 lane meters. The height-adjustable deck is accessible via internal ramps. The continuous vehicle deck is largely closed, only the rear area is open at the top. The usable height on the continuous vehicle deck is 4.35 meters, on the height-adjustable deck it is 4.10 meters. The vehicle capacity is 100 cars. The ferry can carry 400 passengers. Several areas with seating are available for passengers, including a self-service restaurant and a sun deck.

The bridge is in the front of the ship. It is closed over the entire width. For a better overview, the cams extend slightly beyond the width of the ship.
