The LVRTC transmitter Riga was a medium wave transmitter near Riga (transmitter location Ulbroka ). The abbreviation LVRTC stood for the operating company Latvijas Valsts radio un televizijas centrs . Among other things, the hit program Radio Nord was broadcast on the frequency 945 kHz with an output of 2.7 kW in DRM simulcast , which could also be received in Germany during the night.
Two self-radiating transmission masts were used as the antenna system. While the larger of the two transmission masts was a conventional 125-meter-high guyed steel framework mast, the second mast of the station was a so-called Blaw Knox transmission tower , a guyed transmission tower with a diamond-shaped cross-section. There are only four other locations of this type in Europe: Lisnagarvey in Northern Ireland, Lakihegy in Hungary, Wakarel and Stara Sagora in Bulgaria.
After broadcasting ended in July 2008, the transmission masts were blown up on May 16, 2010.
