The La Grande Décharge ( French for "The Great Drain") forms the main drain of Lac Saint-Jean in the Canadian province of Québec .
It leaves Lac Saint-Jean on its eastern bank about 12 km west of Alma . When the river was dammed at L'Isle-Maligne , a lake was created from its upper section. The settlement of Saint-Cœur-de-Marie lies on the north bank . The La Grande Décharge joins 2.5 km east of Alma with the smaller drain La Petite Décharge running south to the Rivière Saguenay .
