La abuelita (dt .: The grandmother ) is a Mexican film from the year 1942. Director of this melodrama is Raphael J. Sevilla , which also together with Carlos Martínez Baena the screenplay written and produced the film.

action

It tells the story of an unhappy love. After the death of her mother, the young Anita lives with her father Adrián and her brother Luisito with her grandmother Carmen. She is in love with Fernando, who is married and has a sick child. Carmen watches her granddaughter Fernando kiss and then has a heart attack. That's why Anita decides to leave home. However, she is held up by her grandmother, who has left her sickbed. Carmen forgives Anita and then dies. The film ends with Anita deciding to stay with her family according to her grandmother's wishes.

Production notes

The premiere of La abuelita took place in Mexico on May 9, 1942. The film was also shown in Barcelona and Madrid in 1948 and 1949 . The film is one of a series of films from these years such as La gallina clueca from 1941, Caminito alegre from 1943 and Mamá Inés from 1945, in which Sara García plays the role of grandmother. This earned her the nickname madre de Mexico .
