La gallina clueca (German: The Cackling Chicken ) is a Mexican film from 1941. The melodrama was directed by Fernando de Fuentes , who alsowrote the scripttogether with Carlos Orellana .

The plot begins with a breakdown in the car of Teresa, a widow who was traveling with her three children. They are taken by Ángel, who subsequently employs Teresa for his business, which she then runs successfully. Some time goes by. José, Teresa's son, is now studying medicine, one of his sisters, Lucía, is married and the other, Lupita, is engaged to the cadet Cacho. In this situation, Ángel Teresa proposes marriage. However, she admits that she is still married and that she left her husband because he is an alcoholic. José moves to Oaxaca after his studies and Lupita comes in Cacho. But Lucía returns to her mother's house after her husband has left her and her children. At the end of the film, Teresa learns that her husband has passed away.

La gallina clueca is based on a play by Arnold Malfatti and Nicolás de las Llanderas . The film, which premiered on December 4, 1941, was funded by the production company Films Mundial . 1943 La gallina clueca of Clasa-Mohme published in Spanish in the United States.
