As Lacs de Clairvaux are two adjacent lakes in the western section of the French Jura , in the department of Jura of the Franche-Comté referred. They are located at 526  m in a valley on the edge of the High Jura, near Clairvaux-les-Lacs , around 20 km south-east of Lons-le-Saunier .

The Grand Lac has an area of 56 hectares , a length of around 1.2 km and a width of around 650 m. Its greatest water depth is 20 m.

The south adjoining Petit Lac has an area of 17 hectares, a length of around 700 m and a width of around 370 m. Its greatest water depth is 15 m.

The two lakes are flanked in the east and southeast by the forest heights of the Forêt de la Joux (up to 850  m ). To the west they are separated from the wide basin of the Ain by a hill . The Petit Lac is fed by water from two springs in the basin southeast of the lake. From this lake a 300 m long canal leads north to the Grand Lac. The Raillette , the outflow of the Grand Lac, flows through Clairvaux-les-Lacs and flows into the Drouvenant , a left side stream of the Ain.

While the Petit Lac is used as a drinking water reservoir for five neighboring communities, the Grand Lac is used as a swimming lake in summer. On the east bank of the Grand Lac there is a holiday center with campsites and tent sites. Traces of a Neolithic settlement were found on the north bank.
