Ladislav Troják (born June 15, 1914 in Košice , Austria-Hungary , † November 8, 1948 over the English Channel ) was a Slovak ice hockey player who acted on the position of the right winger . He was the first Slovak in the Czechoslovak national team and also the first Slovak player ever to win the world title in 1947 .
Career
Troják began his career in the 1920s in his hometown at ČsŠK Košice , where he stayed until 1934. After the Tatra Cup in 1934/35 he left his home club and was signed by the then elite club LTC Prague . With the Prague Association he was Czechoslovakian champion five times in 1937 and 1938 and between 1946 and 1948 . He also won the championship of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia five times with the team in 1939 and 1940 and between 1942 and 1944 . He completed a total of eleven seasons.
In addition, he was also active in the Czechoslovak national team and took part in six World Championships and two Winter Olympic Games in 1936 and 1948 between 1936 and 1939 and 1947 and 1948 . He won the gold medal at the World Championships in 1947 and the silver medal at the Olympic Winter Games in 1948. In total, he scored 37 goals in 75 national team games.
Troják died in a plane crash over the English Channel in 1948 while traveling to London with five other players . The chartered Beechcraft 18 small aircraft of the Escadrille Mercure Taxis Aeriens ( aircraft registration F-BGAF ) had an accident in adverse weather in the English Channel, with the two crew members also perishing in addition to these six passengers.
In 2002 Troják was inducted into the Slovak Ice Hockey Hall of Fame . He is also the namesake of the ice hockey stadium in his hometown, the Steel Aréna , which is completely called Steel Aréna - Košický štadión Ladislava Trojáka .
