Lady in Gold - Live in Paris is the second live album of the Swedish blues rock - band Blues Pills . It was released on November 3, 2017 via Nuclear Blast .

Emergence

For the DVD, the band recorded their performance on October 30, 2016 in the Parisian hall Le Trianon , where the band played in front of 1,200 spectators. The location was chosen because the Théâtre Le Trianon would be one of the most beautiful concert locations in Europe in the opinion of the musicians . With the DVD, the band wants to give everyone who has never seen them live before the chance to get to know the atmosphere at a Blues Pills gig. The songs would sound different at live concerts than on the albums. According to the musicians there is "more rock 'n' roll , more psychedelic parts, more jams and everything would sound a bit harder". At concerts, the band would keep adding new song parts and playing raw versions of the songs that were reduced to the essentials. Live the band was supported by Rickard Nygren on the Hammond organ .

Of the 15 tracks, nine come from the then current album Lady in Gold and five from the debut album Blues Pills . The song Bliss comes from the EP of the same name . Directed at the DVD led the Frenchwoman Julie Rohart, previously short films directed and now was responsible for a music DVD for the first time. The concert was recorded with four cameras. Bassist Zack Anderson was involved in the mix . Videos for the songs Little Boy Preacher , Elements and Things and Bliss were released in advance . The live album was published in different versions. In addition to the double CD, the album is also available as a double CD in a digipak with DVD or Blu-ray . In addition, the album appears as a double LP in different colors. The album is also published in a so-called canvas bundle with DVD or Blu-ray. As an extra, this version includes a stretcher frame with the album cover in the format 40 × 40 cm.

reception

Holger Stratmann from the German magazine Rock Hard described the Blues Pills as a “fantastic live band that still masters the art of improvisation” and Lady in Gold - Live in Paris as “a thrilling document of a band that is undoubtedly on its way to the top”. Stratmann's only point of criticism was that the band "should give the audience more time to breathe, especially in the first half". For Frank Thiessies from the German magazine Metal Hammer , those for whom the finely honed production of Lady in Gold was too clean can look forward to missing corners and edges as well as plenty of snapshots of adrenaline. Thiessies awarded five out of seven points. Dominik Rothe from the German online magazine Metal.de described the DVD as a successful cross-section through the previous career of the Blues Pills. Every fan of good (rock) music can access it without hesitation. The only downer would be the "lack of any bonus material", but Rother awarded nine out of ten points.

Lady in Gold - Live in Paris entered the German album charts at number 29.
