Ladybank is a town in the Scottish Council Area Fife . It is located around 18 kilometers north of Kirkcaldy and west of St Andrews in the Howe of Fife region near the left bank of the Eden .

history

Located in a former moor, the former place names Moss of Monegae and Our Lady's Bog ("Moor of Our Lady ") reflect the location of the village. The religious relationship comes from the monks of Lindores Abbey , who mined peat there. After the moor had been drained in the course of the 18th century, the name was later transferred from Lady's Bog to the more melodious Ladybank. 1878 Ladybank was in the state of Burgh set and developed with the cloth and malt. A golf course is now located on the site of a prisoner-of-war camp from World War II .

traffic

The A92 ( Dunfermline - Stonehaven ) passes Ladybank on the west flank. The establishment of Ladybank station in 1847 was significant for the town's development. The Edinburgh and Northern Railway opened the former separation station along the Edinburgh – Dundee railway line . It is still in operation today and is classified as a monument of the highest Scottish monument category A.
