The Laghi del Gorzente (in German: Lakes of Gorzente or Gorzente Lakes ) are three reservoirs in the Ligurian Apennines that supply the port city of Genoa with drinking water and are used to generate electricity . Its catchment area is in the upper reaches of the Torrente Gorzente and has an area of 24 km². They were built by Acquedotto De Ferrari Galliera from 1880 and were managed by Gruppo Iren in 2019 . All of the lakes are partially or entirely in the Capanne di Marcarolo Nature Park on the border of the Liguria and Piedmont regions .
location
The Laghi del Gorzente include Lago Lavezze , Lago Lungo and Lago Badana . Lago Lavezze and Lago Lungo lie on the border between Genoa and the province of Alessandria , while Lago Badana is entirely on Piedmontese territory. The lakes are in the territory of the municipalities of Bosio , Campomorone and Ceranesi . The total storage volume of all three lakes together is 12.5 million m³ .
The 2.3 km long tunnel of the De Ferrari Galliera aqueduct leads from Lake Lavezze under Monte Guana to the south side of the Apennines. The exit of the tunnel is at ⊙ above Isoverde , where the water tower of the power plant is also located. From there, the 1340 m long pressure pipe leads the water to the Isoverde machine house ⊙ near the Gallaneto settlement. The turbined water is fed to the treatment plant next to the power plant and from there distributed to the communities.
Lake Lavezze
The oldest of the Laghi del Gorzente is at an altitude of 646 m above sea level. The dam was built between 1880 and 1883. The lake is also called Lago Bruno after the brothers Bruno who worked out the project of the Acquedotto De Ferrari Galliera . The dam was increased in 1926.
Lago Lungo
The dam of the second lake was built from 1884 to 1891. The lake is translated in German as Langer See and is also called Lago Bigo . It lies at 684 m above sea level.
Lake Badana
The third lake is 700 m above sea level. Its dam was built between 1906 and 1908. It had to be emptied in 2005 because the dam was leaking. The repair of the dam will start in 2020 at the earliest. It turned out to be particularly difficult because of the nature park.
