Robert Wohlmuth (born May 28, 1902 in Vienna , † April 29, 1987 in Palm Beach ) was an Austrian film director and screenwriter .

After a few years as an assistant director , Wohlmuth directed his first film in 1926. Shortly thereafter, he started his own production company. In Vienna, Munich and Berlin he mostly shot comedies, but also social dramas and romances. In 1930 he parodied with his Das Kabinett des Dr. Larifari the silent film classic Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari .

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists in 1933, Wohlmuth returned to Vienna, after the " Anschluss of Austria " in 1938 he emigrated to the USA. Here he called himself Robert Wilmot and directed documentary, industrial and advertising films in Hollywood. However, his drafts of scripts for feature films were not used or were only used as a story template.

In 1949 he founded the production company Pathéscope Productions of America Inc. , and in 1951 he became vice president of Henry Strauss Prod. , Which specialized in the production of television documentaries.
