The Lainez Point ( French Cap Lainez ) is a headland on the west coast of the West Antarctic Pourquoi-Pas Island . It forms the north side of the entrance to Dalgliesh Bay off the Fallières coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula .
The headland was discovered during the Fifth French Antarctic Expedition (1908-1910) under the direction of the polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot . Charcot named it after Manuel Láinez (1852-1924), founder and publisher of the Argentine newspaper El Diario , who supported Charcot's expedition. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee transferred the French name to English on September 20, 1955, which was joined by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in 1963.
