Lajos Molnár

Lajos Molnár (born October 13, 1946 in Nyírbátor ; † March 23, 2015 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian politician and doctor who was Minister of Health between 2006 and 2007 in the second cabinet of Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány .

Medical career

After graduating from high school in Nyírbátor, he studied at the Stavropol State University in the Soviet Union . He received a degree in medicine from the University of Debrecen in 1971. Molnár became an ear, nose and throat doctor . He later worked in Algeria in the 1970s , then in Vienna . He returned to Hungary after the 1989 revolutions .

He was appointed head of department at Tolna County Hospital .

Political career

He joined the liberal League of Free Democrats and became a member of parliament for the party's national list after the 2006 general election. After the coalition negotiations, he was nominated for the position of Minister of Health by the Socialist Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány. He took the oath on June 9, 2006.

During his ministerial tenure, there have been several controversial reforms and investments, including pharmacy privatization and co-payment. He stepped down from office in April 2007.
