Lake Apopka is a lake in Lake County and Orange County in the US state of Florida .
The lake has an area of 122 km² . On the shore lie the towns of Montverde and Ferndale in Lake County and Apopka , Ocoee , Winter Garden and Oakland in Orange County.
The lake's water is heavily polluted. A number of the laws from the 1980s and 1990s such as the Lake Apopka Restoration Act (1985), the Surface Water Improvement and Management Act (1987), and the Lake Apopka Improvement and Management Act (1996) are aimed at improving water quality . The efforts are coordinated by the St. Johns River Water Management District .
