Apopka is about 10 km northwest of Orlando .
history
In 1888 the Florida Midland Railway opened the line from Lake Jesup via Apopka and Clarcona to Kissimmee . When the plant system took over the route in 1896, the Lake Jesup - Clarcona section was closed.
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the 41,542 inhabitants at that time were distributed among 15,707 households. The population density was 666.8 inh / km². 64.3% of the population identified themselves as whites , 20.7% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 3.2% as Asian Americans . 8.3% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.3% to several ethnic groups. 25.4% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 20.5% of all households lived in 42.0% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 76.5% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.88 people and the average family size was 3.25 people.
29.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 14.7% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 35 years. 48.5% of the population were male and 51.5% were female.
The median annual income was $ 58,996, with 10.1% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 80.60% of the population, 16.52% spoke Spanish and 2.88% spoke another language.

The Florida Central Railroad operates freight traffic from here via Tavares to Umatilla , to Sorrento and to Orlando and Winter Garden .
