Wedgefield is a census-designated place (CDP) in Orange County in the US state of Florida with 6,705 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Wedgefield is located about 25 km east of Orlando on the east bank of the Econlockhatchee River , a tributary of the St. Johns River . The CDP is affected by Florida State Roads 520 and 528 ( Martin Andersen Beachline Expressway , toll).

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 6,705 inhabitants were distributed over 2,585 households. The population density was 110.5 inh / km². 74.0% of the population identified themselves as whites , 10.8% as African American , 0.3% as Native American and 5.1% as Asian Americans . 5.8% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 4.0% to several ethnic groups. 25.5% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 22.2% of all households lived in 41.7% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 83.9% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.93 and the average family size was 3.17.

27.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.8% were 20 to 39 years old, 33.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 16.1% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 40 years. 49.9% of the population were male and 50.1% were female.

The median annual income was $ 75,000, with 7.7% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 85.69% of the population, 9.94% spoke Spanish and 4.37% spoke Tagalog .
