Doctor Phillips is named after Dr. Phillip Phillips (. 27 January 1874 to 18 April 1959), an orange juice industrialist and philanthropist named census-designated place (CDP) in Orange County in the US state of Florida with 10,981 inhabitants (2010).

Doctor Phillips is directly adjacent to Orlando to the northeast and is in close proximity to Interstate 4 .

history

In 1888 the Florida Midland Railway was opened, running from Lake Jesup via Clarcona and Doctor Phillips to Kissimmee . In 1896 the company was incorporated into the Plant System . Further owners were subsequently the ACL (1902-1967), the SCL (1967-1986) and CSX (since 1986).

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 10,981 inhabitants were distributed over 4,930 households. The population density was 1247.8 inh / km². 75.1% of the population identified themselves as whites , 4.1% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 13.9% as Asian Americans . 3.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.7% to several ethnic groups. 12.9% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 32.6% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 24.8% of all households. 72.9% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.58 people and the average family size was 3.01 people.

23.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 22.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 33.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 20.4% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 43 years. 48.9% of the population were male and 51.1% were female.

The median annual income was $ 85,762, with 7.4% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, 81.23% of the population spoke English as their first language, 8.38% spoke Spanish and 10.49% spoke another language.
