Pine Castle is a census-designated place (CDP) in Orange County in the US state of Florida with 10,805 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Pine Castle is directly adjacent to the towns of Edgewood (north) and Belle Isle (east). The CDP is located about 10 km south of Orlando and is crossed or tangent to Florida State Roads 482 and 527 .

Pine Castle (Station Sand Lake Road ) is a station of SunRail on the route from Poinciana through Orlando to DeBary . There is a connection to the Amtrak long-distance trains at Orlando Station .

Pine Castle was first connected to the railroad network by the South Florida Railroad in 1881.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 10,805 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 4,031 households. The population density was 1589.0 inh / km². 61.8% of the population identified themselves as whites , 16.9% as African American , 0.8% as Indians and 4.8% as Asian Americans . 11.8% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.9% to several ethnic groups. 48.6% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 19.1% of all households lived in 42.8% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 70.8% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.98 people and the average family size was 3.42 people.

30.8% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 30.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 25.9% were 40 to 59 years old, and 12.6% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 32 years. 50.3% of the population were male and 49.7% were female.

The median annual income was $ 27,363, with 31.0% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 55.40% of the population, 34.36% spoke Spanish and 10.24% had another mother tongue.
