The Orlando station is a railway station in long-distance traffic and is used by Amtrak operated. It is located in Orlando , Orange County , Florida .

history

The station was built in 1926 by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad . After the railway company merged with the Seaboard Air Line Railroad in 1967 , it was continued to be operated by the new Seaboard Coast Line Railroad .

The station was served by the luxury passenger train Orange Blossom Special until 1953 . The Silver Meteor , which was taken over by Amtrak in 1971 , has served the station since 1939. In addition to the Silver Meteor , the Silver Star also stops in Orlando today .

Until 2005, the station was also the start and end of the Sunset Limited of the Amtrak railroad to Los Angeles . However, after the effects of Hurricane Katrina , the line was shortened to the New Orleans - Los Angeles route.

Connection

The train station is located in south downtown Orlando. There is a connection to the long-distance buses from Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach via Tampa and Saint Petersburg to Fort Myers . The station is served by buses from the Lynx bus company .

Since May 1, 2014, Orlando has also been served by SunRail on the route from DeBary to Pine Castle , which means that the Greater Orlando conurbation is better served by local rail transport. On July 30, 2018, an extension of this line in the south to Poinciana was opened.
