Zellwood is a census-designated place (CDP) in Orange County in the US state of Florida with 2817 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Zellwood borders directly on the city of Apopka in the southeast and is located about 25 km northwest of Orlando . The CDP is crossed by US Highway 441 . The Florida Central Railroad operates freight traffic from here via Tavares to Umatilla , to Sorrento and to Orlando and Winter Garden .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 2817 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 1787 households. The population density was 278.9 inh / km². 90.6% of the population identified themselves as whites , 2.0% as African-Americans , 0.4% as Indians and 0.5% as Asian Americans . 5.9% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 0.6% to several ethnic groups. 12.1% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 69.7% of all households lived in 9.9% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 57.5% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 1.95 people and the average family size was 2.53 people.

11.2% of the population were younger than 20 years, 10.2% were 20 to 39 years old, 18.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 59.9% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 66 years. 46.4% of the population were male and 53.6% were female.

The median annual income was $ 34,604, with 23.1% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 88.55% of the population and 11.45% spoke Spanish .
