South Apopka is a census-designated place (CDP) in Orange County in the US state of Florida with 5728 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

South Apopka borders directly on the city of Apopka in the northwest and is located about 10 km northwest of Orlando . The CDP is crossed and tangent to by US Highway 441 ( SR 500 ) and Florida State Road 414 ( Maitland Boulevard Extension , toll).

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 5728 inhabitants were distributed among 1925 households. The population density was 970.8 inh / km². 26.9% of the population identified themselves as whites, 64.1% as African-Americans , 0.5% as Indians, and 0.5% as Asian Americans . 6.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.0% to several ethnic groups. 17.7% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 27.6% of all households lived in 42.3% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 74.1% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 3.17 people and the average family size was 3.63 people.

31.9% of the population were younger than 20 years, 26.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 26.3% were 40 to 59 years old, and 15.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 33 years. 49.3% of the population were male and 50.7% were female.

The median annual income was $ 36,607, with 26.9% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 89.20% of the population and Spanish spoke 10.80%.
