In 614, after the conquest of Jerusalem by the Sassanids, he became administrator of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem in place of Zacharias, who had been captured and deported to Persia . He rebuilt the most important of the destroyed church buildings, reorganized the Jerusalem worship service under the changed conditions and ensured a repopulation of deserted desert monasteries.

It was not until 630 that he was officially appointed patriarch. He died on December 17, 634 (or 630?).
