Oleyl alcohol is a chemical compound from the group of unsaturated fatty alcohols . It is the cis isomer of elaidyl alcohol [( E ) -octadec-9-en-1-ol].
Occurrence
Oleyl alcohol occurs naturally in whale rat , whale oil, and wool fat .
Extraction and presentation
Oleyl alcohol can be obtained from oleic acid , whereby the carbon-carbon double bond is retained.

Oleyl alcohol is a colorless, very difficult to ignite liquid with a fatty odor that is practically insoluble in water. It decomposes at temperatures above 517 ° C.
use
Oleyl alcohol plays an important role as a raw material for surface-active substances, for example alkyl polyglycol ethers .
