MOT (Music on Top) was a 45-minute show for German pop and international pop hits of the NDR in the first television program . The series was moderated by Wolf-Dieter Stubel , initially off-screen in the first 9 episodes and also visible in the picture in the last two programs. The editorial team was in the hands of Horst Wernstedt. Harald Vock was responsible for the production and all 11 episodes were directed by Rainer Bertram .

    Wolf-Dieter Stubel

Stubel has been working as a radio presenter since 1967 and was employed by Norddeutscher Rundfunk for over 30 years . He gained popularity as the presenter of the International Hit Parade , which was broadcast between 1967 and March 25, 1989 (last broadcast) on NDR 2 and has been broadcast on Radio NORA since 2005 .

    Harald Vock

From 1955 until the 1980s, Vock was head of entertainment for NDR television . From this position he was u. a. the founder of the TV shows Music from Studio B , Shark Bar and Snack .

    Rainer Bertram

From 1967 Bertram stood behind the camera for the first time as a television director. He staged portraits of Count Basie , Juliette Gréco , OW Fischer , Erroll Garner , Zarah Leander and others. In addition, he worked temporarily as a radio presenter at the SFB and from 1967 to 1970 presented the Hey Music hit parade . From the 1970s onwards he directed the successful quiz series All or nothing . After long-time director Sigmar Börner left the program Musik aus Studio B , he took over directing here from October 18, 1971, for which he was responsible until the 97th and final edition of this series on September 20, 1976. From 1979 Bertram staged some German preliminary decisions for the Eurovision Song Contest and in 1983 he was responsible for broadcasting the 28th Eurovision Song Contest in Munich. This was followed by work for private television such as the RTL show Everything nothing or ?! (1988 to 1992).

    concept

MOT (Music on Top) was conceived as a direct follow-up to the long-lasting and recently discontinued music from Studio B. In contrast to the previous show, this new music show was supposed to do without a presenter visible in the picture, which is why all artists and performers were initially only announced by one voice from the “off”. The presenter was only seen in the picture in the last two programs. As a rule, three German-speaking singers appeared at the beginning of the program, followed by three international music acts and a German or international guest star at the end of the program. The ladies of the Hamburg television ballet, who had previously also been part of the regular cast of Musik from Studio B, were there again. The choreography of the dance performances, which could be seen at the beginning and at the end of the program, was, as in the Studio B years, in the proven hands of Heinz Schmiedel and Maria Litto . The first nine episodes of the series were pre-recorded in Studio Hamburg , while the last two issues were broadcast as live broadcasts. All eleven episodes were produced in front of the audience in the studio.

The series MOT (Music On Top) was discontinued after a total of eleven programs, because ARD then had only eight million Schlager friends.

According to information from the local archive service (information status 2015), only 3 of the 11 episodes originally produced in the “MOT (Music On Top)” series have survived in the archive of the Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) in Hamburg. These are the recordings of episodes 1, 8 and 11. The VTR material of the other 8 episodes is either no longer available in the NDR archive or only partially in fragments. The VTR material in question then mostly shows serious picture and sound deficiencies so that it is unfortunately no longer broadcast or can be copied.

    Trivia

The broadcast of the 7th episode, originally planned for September 5, 1977, was taken out of the program at short notice because ARD found the show unsuitable because of the kidnapping of Hanns Martin Schleyer . It was the only change in the program on kidnapping day.

In the 34th episode of the quick advice program Die Montagmaler on January 10, 1978, a team from the ARD program MOT, made up of Wolf-Dieter Stubel , Dorthe Kollo , Juliane Werding and Lonzo Westphal , entered a cheerful painting and guessing contest against a team the ZDF New Year's Eve party.
