The Laksefjord ( North Sami Lágesvuotna ) is a fjord in the municipality of Lebesby in the Norwegian province of Troms og Finnmark . With a length of 75 km, it is the third longest fjord in Finnmark - after the Porsangerfjord and the Varangerfjord .
geography
It is located in a sparsely populated region with very few and small settlements along its fjord coast. On the west side there is only one inhabited place, namely Veidnes with 30 inhabitants. The outer part of the fjord is bounded by the Sværholt Peninsula in the west and the North Chin Peninsula in the east.
The Storelva River flows into the fjord.
etymology
It is unclear whether the Norwegian name Laksefjord comes from the Norwegian word for salmon, laks . It could also be a translation of the Sami name Lágesvuotna . The word part láges means flat and vuotna fjord. The word flat is probably used because of the nearby mountain plain. The second theory is mentioned in the Norwegian place-name lexicon.
