Lalitaditya
Lalitaditya-Muktapida (ruled approx. 723-760) was a king of Kashmir from the Karkota dynasty , who besides Kashmir also controlled the Panjab and eastern Afghanistan .
He fought off the Arabs of Sind , around 733 pushed the art poet sponsor Yasovarman von Kannauj down to the rank of vassal and also defeated King Jivitagupta II of Bihar and Bengal . Then he penetrated far into the Deccan in order to take advantage of the disputes there (dispute for the throne among the Rashtrakuta around 736). But around 747 he had to return to Kashmir to hold back the Tibetans and Tang Chinese . He is said to have penetrated as far as the Tarim Basin and the Mongolian border. However, when his army froze to death in heavy snowfall, he committed suicide by self-immolation in the face of it . His deeds were described by the poet and chronicler Kalhana, who also exaggerated in order to increase Lalitaditya's fame.
