Lamathea , the Baden-Württemberg State Amateur Theater Award, has been a biennial state award for amateur theater in Baden-Württemberg since 2013 . The prize is awarded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts . The organizer is the State Association of Amateur Theater Baden-Württemberg (LABW).

Categories

The participating theaters have to apply proactively for one of seven categories. The theater categories are: indoor theater, theater with children and young people, open-air theater , dialect theater, theater with a sociocultural background and puppet and figure theater . In addition, an undoped special prize is awarded for life's work and civic engagement in the state. For this purpose, individuals or groups of people / institutions / companies can be suggested who have achieved outstanding results with their voluntary commitment in the service of amateur theater.

Doping

The prize is endowed with a total of € 12,000, € 2,000 per category. The special prize for life's work and civic engagement is undoped. The prize replaces the "State Prize for Baden-Württemberg Folk Theater Plays" founded in 1978.

Judging

The jury includes experts from amateur theater as well as representatives from the professional theater scene. In each theater category, three productions are nominated, from each of which a prize winner is selected. No nominations have been made in the Lifetime Achievement and Civic Commitment category since 2015.

The prize statue

The artist Gerhart Kraner from Donzdorf designed the 25 cm high bronze figure for the first award ceremony, which is presented to the winners as a trophy.

The award festival for the third Lamathea took place from September 30th to October 2nd, 2017 in Karlsruhe . The local host stages were: Die Käuze, the Jakobus Theater in der Fabrik and the Student Cultural Center (SKZ) at KIT.

The Lamathea 2017 was awarded on October 2, 2017 in Karlsruhe in the KIT Audimax. The six groups of winners and the winners for life's work were selected from 159 applications.

The award festival for the second Lamathea took place from October 1st to 3rd, 2015 in Bruchsal . The local host stages were: Die Koralle, the Exil Theater and the Bruchsal community center.

The Lamathea 2015 was awarded on October 3rd in Bruchsal . The six groups of prizewinners as well as the prizewinner for the life's work were selected from almost 140 applications. Claudia Rose from the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for Science, Research and Art presented the prizes.

Prize winners festival and award ceremony 2013

The first Lamathea award ceremony took place on October 5, 2013 in Sulz am Neckar as the conclusion and highlight of the first Lamathea Prize Winners Festival. The Baden-Württemberg Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann took over the patronage.

From the almost 200 applications, the six groups of winners and the winners for the life's work were selected. The latter was honored by Jürgen Walter .
