His motto was “sicut qui ministrat” (“Like one who serves”). In 1983, during Dörr's term of office, the first African novices were accepted and the liturgical language changed from German choral prayer to the national language of Swahili, and a subsidiary was founded in Kenya. During the entire term of office Dörr was also active in pastoral care. When he resigned after 30 years in office in the summer of 2006, the abbey counted around 59 professed monks, 20 of whom were of African origin.

After a short recovery period, Dörr continued to work in his abbey, managing the monastery library and writing treatises on the history of the monastery and the biographies of some missionaries.
