description

Lamiodendron magnificum is an evergreen to 20 meter high tree . Its stem axis is hairless.

The imparipinnate, stalked leaves with 9–11 leaflets are opposite. The pointed, bald leaflets are short stalked and with entire margins.

The inflorescences are axillary grapes or thyrses , which consist of only a few flowers , and in the leaf axils there are often stunted flowers to be found. The stalked hermaphrodite flowers are double- inflated . The calyx is cup-shaped and has five equally shaped calyx tips. The long crown is broadly bell-shaped with short lobes and almost circular and bright orange to apricot-colored. The four stamens , hairy at the base, are only slightly above the crown. The dust bags are hairless and consist of two diverging counters. In addition to the fertile stamens, a shorter staminodium is formed. The glandular and hairy, long, elongated, upper and continuous quadrangular -rippige ovary is cylindrical. Each ovary compartment contains several ovules . The ovary very long, filamentous stylus is partially surrounded by a cup-shaped base of the flower surrounded.

The fruits are elongated, many-seeded capsules , on which the calyx is not permanent. The valves of the capsules are hairless, the many seeds are winged.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 48.

distribution

The species is common in eastern New Guinea .
