Elevation to the city

On June 18, 2007, the electorate of Lamitan ratified Republic Act 9393, which approved the elevation of Lamitan to the city. This changed the status of the municipality from a township to a city. Lamitan has since been officially called the City of Lamitan .

According to Lamitan's Mayor Roderick Furigay, 26,636 voters voted to ratify Republic Act 9393 and 177 against.
