Lana Gehring (born August 21, 1990 in Chicago ) is an American speed skater and short tracker .

Gehring started at the age of 15 for the first time in a major international short track event, the Junior World Championship 2006 in Miercurea Ciuc . There she managed to get into the semi-finals with the relay, in the individual races she was eliminated early. In the 2006/07 season she also started the Short Track World Cup for the first time , in which she was able to celebrate twelfth place over 500 m as her best result. A year later, in the 2007/08 season , she even reached the final in Kobe over 500 m and thus a fifth place. In the same World Cup, she also managed to finish in the top 10 in tenth place over 1000 m. As in the previous season, she did not start at major events. In the 2008/09 World Cup , Gehring achieved their first podium places with the relay, including a World Cup victory in Dresden . She won bronze at the team world championship in Heerenveen . In the following season 2009/10 she reached several podium places with the relay again. At the Olympic Games in Vancouver , she was part of the US relay. The season was initially fourth in the final, but after the Korean women were disqualified, they were awarded bronze. At the World Championships in Sofia , she also won bronze with the relay. In the 2010/11 World Cup , Gehring won her first individual World Cup races over 1000 m and 1500 m. She also won bronze at the World Team Championship in Warsaw . Gehring also had a very successful 2011/12 season . In the World Cup, she placed eight times on a podium, including victories over 1000 m and 1500 m at the last World Cup in Dordrecht . In the overall World Cup discipline ranking, Gehring was fourth over 1000 m and third over 1500 m. At the World Championships in Shanghai , she won her first individual World Championship medal with bronze over 500 m. With the relay she also won the silver medal, in the all-around competition she finished eighth.

Parallel to his short track career, Gehring also competes in speed skating. After good results at the American Time Trials in Minneapolis in 2005 , she also achieved very decent results at the national junior sprint and all-round championship in 2006 by finishing fourth twice. In December 2006 she was sixth in the US sprint championship in the adult division, shortly afterwards she even won the national juniors in this discipline. In the Junior Allround World Championship she missed the top 10 in 17th place, but was so convincing that she was nominated by the American Association for the 2008 World Speed Skating Sprint Championship . There she could not, however, place herself. Another success Gehring was the bronze medal at the US Sprint Championship 2008 for seniors. Gehring has now specialized in short track competitions.
